Floating Floors

WHY CHOOSE FLOATING FLOOR?

With the ambience and warmth of natural timber, floating floors are designed for modern living. Unlike solid timber floor boards, a floating floor is not fixed to the sub floor in any way, but rather ‘floating’ on top of a thin underlay placed directly over the existing sub floor. Floating floors are available in timber or laminate (a photographic impression of any other flooring type), floating floors and are available in an extensive range of styles and species.

Why choose a floating floor over another flooring product?

  • Floating floors can be installed over any solid sub-floor such as concrete slabs, timber floorboards, tiles, cork, chipboard or plywood.
  • As the coating process is pre-finished in the factory, speed of installation and the absence of any toxic smell, ensures that disruptions to the owner are minimised.
  • Floating floors come pre-finished so they are quick and easy to install, free of toxic smells (present in polishing during installation of solid timber) and you can walk on them immediately after installation.
  • Floating floors are very wear resistant and durable due to the fact that they aren’t nailed down like conventional floorboards, and any movement in the boards is spread across the entire floor, which makes gaps less likely to appear.
  • Rising moisture can easily be prevented by installing a plastic membrane beneath the foam underlay at a very minimal cost.
  • Polyurethane baked on in a factory is generally a lot harder wearing than a coating that is air dried on site. This gives the floating floor a harder wearing finish in the long run.
